Carveth Read (1848–1931) was an English philosopher and psychologist. Educated at Cambridge, he succeeded George Croom Robertson as Grote Professor of Philosophy of Mind and Logic at University College, London, and later lectured there on comparative psychology. His books include On the Theory of Logic, Logic: Deductive and Inductive, The Metaphysics of Nature, Natural and Social Morals and The Origin of Man and of His Superstitions, published in 1920. He approached logic and ethics as a naturalist, seeking to explain human thought and belief through evolution and comparative psychology.
