Benjamin L. D'Ooge

Benjamin Leonard D'Ooge (1860–1940) was an American classical scholar and teacher. Born in the Netherlands and brought to Michigan as a child, he studied at the University of Michigan and in Germany and taught Latin for more than forty years at the Michigan State Normal College in Ypsilanti, training generations of schoolteachers. His textbooks, Latin for Beginners (1911), Latin Composition, Easy Latin for Sight Reading, an edition of Caesar's Gallic War and a Colloquia Latina, were used across the United States and remain in print. His brother Martin D'Ooge was a noted professor of Greek at Ann Arbor.
