Augusta Huiell Seaman

Augusta Huiell Seaman (1879–1950) was an American author of mystery stories for girls. Born in New York City, she taught school before turning to writing, and she later lived on the New Jersey coast, which supplied settings for several of her books. Beginning with The Boarded-Up House in 1915, she wrote some forty novels, among them The Sapphire Signet, The Slipper Point Mystery and The Dragon's Secret, many first serialized in St. Nicholas magazine. Her heroines solve puzzles drawn from history and old houses, and her books are noted for their careful plotting.
