Arthur John Rees (1872–1942) was an Australian-born writer of detective fiction who spent most of his career in England. After working as a journalist in Melbourne and Sydney, he moved to London around 1910 and wrote for the Fleet Street press. His novels, beginning with The Merry Marauders (1913) and including The Shrieking Pit (1919), The Hand in the Dark (1920) and The Moon Rock, belong to the period when the English detective story was becoming a puzzle of clues, alibis and country houses; his investigator Grant Colwyn appears in several. Two early books were written with John R. Watson.
