Annie Lorrain Smith (1854–1937) was a British botanist and one of the leading lichen specialists of her time. Born in Dumfriesshire, she worked for decades at the Department of Botany of the British Museum, at first unofficially because women could not hold permanent posts there. She wrote monographs on British lichens, the Cambridge handbook Lichens, published in 1921, and a handbook of British lichens, and she was among the first women admitted as fellows of the Linnean Society in 1904. She also served as president of the British Mycological Society, and her work long shaped the study of lichens.
