Amanda M. Douglas

Amanda M. Douglas (1831–1916) was an American author of fiction for girls and family readers. Born in New York City, she moved with her family to Newark, New Jersey, where she spent the rest of her life, and began writing stories for magazines in the 1850s. Her first novel, In Trust, appeared in 1866, and she went on to publish some sixty books, among them the Kathie series, the Sherburne series, Larry, which won a prize from the Youth's Companion, and the Little Girl series that began with A Little Girl in Old New York in 1896 and carried its heroines through the cities of nineteenth-century America.
