Alexander F. Mitchell

Alexander Ferrier Mitchell (1822–1899) was a Scottish minister and church historian. Born in Brechin and educated at St Andrews, he became professor of Hebrew and later of ecclesiastical history at St Mary's College, St Andrews, and served as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1885. He devoted much of his scholarship to the Reformation and to the Westminster Assembly, editing its minutes and writing on its standards. His Baird Lectures, delivered in 1899 and published after his death as The Scottish Reformation, were edited by his friend David Hay Fleming.
