Albert A. Hopkins was an American editor and writer on applied science, long associated with the Scientific American and its publishers, Munn and Company, in New York. He compiled the Scientific American Cyclopedia of Receipts, Notes and Queries, a widely used reference work, and in 1897 edited Magic: Stage Illusions and Scientific Diversions, Including Trick Photography, which gathered the magazine's exposures of stage illusions, automata, theatrical effects and early moving pictures into a single illustrated volume that remains a source for historians of magic and cinema. He also wrote on home mechanics and photography.
